Using 3G on my Macbook Pro is an eternal struggle - the software provided by Vodacom for their 3G E220 HSDPA modem is faulty. Vodacom support executives even confessed to me that ‘the software is buggy’. The 3G line always drops or even lately - the software stops working all together! I reached out to my Twitter followers to try find a solution and was pleasantly surprised when I found the latest version of Vodafone’s Huawei 3G modem software. Kudos to Shuan!
It works brilliantly, has a much better interface and is available for download right here!

Sheesh, I wish it were that simple for MTN! I’ve had a mac for about a month now and I still haven’t figured out how to download it without the software disks (I lost those ages ago).
Okay, so one of my twitter followers just helped me out. In future, for any 3g/mac issues - go to this link:
http://bit.ly/Iy85u I’m not sure what the APN for vodacom is, but for MTN its “myMTN”.
I can imagine! The perils of using Mac.
If you want to upgrade your firmware (and the built in software)of your E220 modem then check out the post below. Firmware version is 11.117.10.03.99 and it enables downloads of up to 7.2 Mbps! Did it to mine and it works fine. Read about it here:
