Blueworld & KFC video campaign

logo.jpg

We have been working on some exciting campaigns at the Blueworld offices recently, and I want to tell you about one in particular, KFC.

We have built KFC their very own video sharing website – a white label version of the Blueworld infrastructure. KFC’s entire campaign revolves around “Dude, I’m a star” targeting the younger demographic (You will see the Colonel “Kernel” has been funked up). They want people to sing, dance or beatbox (anything really) into a camera (preferably their cell cam) and then upload the video to the KFC site for other users to rate and comment on. The ‘publishers’ of the top 20 videos will be jetted to the Europe Music Awards to hang out with local celebs! Exciting stuff

We custom built the entire platform and introduced some functionality I’m very proud of! After filming yourself ‘performing’ you can either use the site to upload your video or MMS the video straight from your cell to your profile on the site! We have done this for videos and photos.

Being able to record media on your cell (photo or video) and then sending it to your Blueworld profile opens a whole new door for user generated content on the fly. Your MMS’d videos and photos also appear on the homepage after moderated approval. Imagine your at a rugby match or in a nightclub – record something that happend, mms to mms@blueworldmedia.co.za and 1 min later your content is on your profile and the Blueworld homepage! OWNAGE!

There’s a huge advertising campaign currently running promoting our campaign with KFC – Ads will be running on six radio stations, MTV and MTV bass for the next six months – the ads focus around www.blueworld.co.za/kfc – so this will be huge exposure for us – our traffic is doubling each month!

You can access the KFC site via www.blueworld.co.za/kfc

Here is a screenshot of my profile on KFC – All the content is pulled from my original Blueworld profile and populated into the KFC frame. This means when we launched the KFC site they had all the Blueworld users -130k – show up on their site. Wala! Instant community..

This is the blurp from the site which will give you a better understanding of the campaign and how uber cool it is. (;

With KFC you can stand the chance to win an all expenses paid trip to go to the European Music Awards! This includes flights, accommodation, transport and food! You will not only be able to meet the South African & African nominees but also hang with them in Munich, Germany.

If you are not one of the lucky few to go to the awards you could still win 10 seconds of fame and star in your own advert that will be broadcasted on MTV during the Video Music Awards and European Music Awards.

So if you think you’ve got what it takes then look out for the KFC / MTV gig-rig coming to a university, school or mall near you! Giving you the chance to:

Be heard (sing / beat box / acceptance speech etc.)

Be seen (dance etc.)

Be MTV worthy (a wacky skit)

If a live performance is not for you then send your video by MMS(?) or email to star@kfcsa.co.zaso we can suss out your style! (put your full name in the title bar so we know who you are!) Remember to only use the songs that are downloadable on this site for your clips or risk the chance of being disqualified. *Please note standard MMS rates apply

Vote here for your favorite MTV worthy clip. You can vote as many times as you like, for whoever you want.

Closing entries for the Video Music Awards are 25 August and voting ends on 26 August. The winners will be announced on 27 August. Your 10 seconds of fame will begin shooting in Johannesburg on 29 August.

Closing entries for the European Music Awards are 18 October and voting ends 19 October. The winners will be announced on 20 October. Your 10 seconds of fame will begin shooting in Johannesburg on 22 October.

Check out the site and let me know what you think!

The new Blueworld dot coza

blueworld2.jpg

Just a quick note to say the new Blueworld website is live! Three weeks of blood, sweat and tears (plus lots of Pizza and coffee) but we’re proud to say the site is finally done!

As mentioned in my previous post about BW, we have expanded to 1024px width. This allows us to fit in more on each page and improve the content layout.

Some of the site’s features include blogging, video uploading, photo uploading, clubbing galleries, featured content and the ability to MMS photos (soon video aswell) straight to your profile from your cellphone! (Beat that!)

I will go more in depth about the site and how we designed/built it later on. For now pop over and post your feedback in the comments below!

ps – We slapped together a new logo as well, props to the Fox..

Blueworld, unleash your soul!

Web Design Client: Sky Promo

screen4.jpg

Sky Promotions approached us to build their web presence and take care of their hosting, email etc. They had no clear idea what angle they wanted to go online but requested something different that would get people talking. I called our Flash and PHP guru Hannes Brink in to manage the project and bring his interactive media skills to the table.

Malan took care of the web site layout design and logo identity. I gave him the orders to come up with a dark feel and incorporate some skyline features into the design. He delivered.

WordPress Themes dotcoza my new blog

Wordpress ThemesThere’s tons of sites with WordPress themes up for download so why not create one blog featuring the best picks of the lot? WordPressThemes.co.za is a small blog I started a few weeks back featuring only the highest quality themes and top plugins. I haven’t had the chance to show anyone so here goes..

The blog is doing well, ranking on the first page of Google for the local search “WordPress themes” although there’s not much competition in the SERPs hence why I created the blog.

Shoot over to Free WordPress Themes and get a new theme for your blog! It’s all fresh..

I also did a small write-up on the top freely available WordPress Plugins

ps – If your a theme publisher and want to blog your latest releases as you finish them mail me.

ZoopedTube, broadcast your car!

We have been working on this one for a while and I’m proud to announce that it’s ready. I started Zoopedup.com six years back and have been launching spin off services for the site ever since.

Now it’s time to introduce ZoopedTube, a video sharing site for the Zoopedup car club members to upload their car clips and share automotive media online.

The name obviously derives from the Zoopedup brand so just for the record there’s no inspiration from Jason Elk’s Zoopy video sharing service. (Just to be clear)

ZoopedTube will join CarBlog, Zoopedup forums and TeamZoopedup.com in my automotive network of sites. This is a very ‘tongue in cheek’ project and something i’m not to serious about. The content on the tube is strictly auto related so breath easy local video sharing sites. (;

The “HOW-TO” video created for ZoopedTube exclusively by the multi talented Paul Smart. You can find it here

Blueworld.co.za revamp stage one – Social Networking

blueworld

We recently completed a major revamp of Blueworld’s layout aligning the site’s functionality with modern internet trends. You might say we’re playing catch up in the international game but locally few have jumped at the opportunity to create social networks.

I was responsible for strategizing blueworld’s functionality and designing the front end. Content layout design is what brings a smile to my face, setting out user functionality and plotting out how users will navigate throughout the site from their first click to their exit.

I started with the Blueworld’s homepage and turned it into a summary of the websites most dynamic content. The homepage changes on a hourly basis with new user registrations and uploaded galleries etc. So I placed these items in the ‘feature row’ of the page – right at the top of your view everything above the taskbar in your browser. The feature row of content contains stories around a set list of topics which we duped “For Him” & “For Her” – more on that a little later. Also in your first line of sight is the core of Blueworld’s business – clubbing pics. Almost every night our photographers are out on the scene snapping up the memories driving users to our site to retrieve the pics. Lately we have even expanded to photographing social events such as the J&B Met, One day cricket matches and private birthday parties! This ensures a constant flow of traffic to the main page. The gallery area is the most visited on Blueworld, my goal was to keep the users online after they saved their pics.

What better place than Blueworld to meet new people and socialize online, after all its socializing at nightclubs that got you on the site in the first place. So the second row of content features the Blueworld community with the latest users (get your five min of fame), most popular guys and girls with a Top 100 tags below each. From here any user logged in or not can surf onto user’s profile and view their info. We decided to open the site up more to the general public compared to before when you had to be logged in to view anything. The site looks good, I’m confident visitors will surf around and be impressed and then willingly signup, I don’t want them to be scared off by a 10 field signup page before they’ve seen anything. Although to interact with users and view the larger version of photos you need to be regged.
