<p>I attended the Seacom cable launch in Durban with my fellow digirati last week. Some of the key points -</p>
<ul>
<li>They had pirate issues when laying the cable</li>
<li>The cable is 40 days to completion</li>
<li>1.28TB/s capacity (our current infrastructure can&#8217;t handle these speeds)</li>
<li>The cable links Africa to Europe and Asia (via the Middle East) &#8211; time to move servers to Europe</li>
<li>The project is fully funded &#8211; $600 million (Nedbank and Investec)</li>
</ul>
